General Information:
Our club is very informal.. Just a bunch of guys (Women are welcome but I don't think there are any on the roster )that like to build and / or fly.
During the winter we go dormant.. Except for a small group of guys that get together informally to build projects over the winter months.. Nothing really happens until spring when the snow melts and the flying field dries up. Generally the club president will notify the members and suggest a day to meet and to do the preparation to open the field. This usually happens sometime in May.. Likewise when its time to close the field in the fall . President again suggest a day and members meet to close, usually late October.
So in general Flying season runs from May through October. Field Flying hours are:
Mon - Sat 10 AM until dark
Sunday 12 noon till dark.
The field is gated and all member are issued the combination to gain access. New members and new pilot go through a qualification process before flying without another member being present. Once you are qualified you can use the field any time during flying hours. AMA membership is mandatory.
It is hit and miss finding people at the field. There is really no set schedule. There is a consistent group of members that fly every Tuesday evening ( when there is daylight available ). Another group on Thursday evenings but this is not consistent. Saturday and Sunday afternoons most weekends you can find some members flying.
There are no regular meetings.. Just ad hoc as suggested by the president. There is usually a planning meeting in the spring when field maintenance assignments are given to the volunteers and another meeting in the fall to elect club officers.. Also there is a Christmas party in December.
Membership Dues are $50 per year, are due in December and paid in advance for the following year. In addition, if you are a new member, there is a $25 initiation fee.
More detailed information regarding club rules and policies can be found in the OMAC Member Handbook.
