General Information:

Our club is somewhat informal...We are a group of model aviation enthusiasts that like to build and fly model airplanes. We have members that fly helicopters, 1/4 scale gas, glow & electric airplanes and once and a while control line (although we don’t have a circle).

We maintain a beautiful and spacious flying site in the eastern suburbs of Syracuse on NY rt. 92 in the hamlet of Oran, NY. Our flying field is well set-up for all sizes of RC airplanes with provisions for 4 pilots flying simultaneously.

During the winter months we shift our activities toward incorporating a monthly business meeting with the opportunity to have an informational meeting. We have had demonstrations and discussions on various aspects of model aviation. We have had hands on demonstrations including electric motor and battery selection, plastic film covering, airplane set-up and indoor flying. All very informative!

We host a swap meet in the spring which has been very successful; it is an excellent opportunity to affiliate with not only our own members but also members from many other clubs and interested organizations. Usually in the late summer we have had a picnic which is always a fun event. In the future we will again host a swap meet and hope to add an additional summer flying event. There is a training program and several qualified instructors which allow the beginning flyer to gain experience in a relaxed and comfortable environment.

The flying season generally runs from April, early May thru October; however the club field is open to members 12 months a year. During the winter we don’t plow the driveway to the flying site, so walking in would be required.

In the spring and fall we have work party meetings to open and close the flying site. These work party meetings are usually well attended (many hands makes light work) and it’s a fun activity where members find opportunity to affiliate. The exact date of these work meeting is floating and usually determined by weather and schedules of members attending.

The clubs flying hours of operation are: Mon. – Sat. 9am till dark.     Sun. – noon till dark

Our field is gated and all members are issued a club membership card along with combination to the gate. New members and new fliers go through a qualification process (very basic/quite easy) at which point they are able to fly without another qualified club member being present.

Onondaga Model Aircraft Club is an AMA sanctioned club; therefore a current AMA membership card is required to fly either as a member or guest.

Club meeting night has traditionally been on Tuesday evenings. Usually a member or members will be there on Tuesday (weather permitting). Members also fly everyday; so if the gate is down, visitors are always welcome.

Membership dues are $50 year with a onetime initiation fee of $25.

More information regarding the club, club rules and policies can be found in the OMAC Handbook.
