Subject: OMAC Field Opening News
Hello All
After another long winter its time to start planning for the upcoming flying season. I can't wait to see what new stuff was built or acquired over the winter buy the members.
Field Cut and Rolled:
I was down at the field last weekend and noticed that the grass had already been cut and the field had been rolled. It looks dry and solid and appears to be ready for flying. It really looks good. I talked to Paul Durgey today and he said he had cut and rolled the field and also did a little flying.
I also took a walk around the area adjacent to the runway looking for downed aircraft and parts (before the field gets overgrown).. that may still be laying around from mishaps last year.. Surprisingly, I found nothing except for some bones from some type of mammal that had fallen prey ... Something had a feast over the winter months out back in the overgrown section of the field. I put the bones under the shelter for all to see..
I also noticed that the gas grill is home to a family of field mice again this year.. It seems the grill is a favorite place to raise a family.
Request For Volunteers:
Paul Durgey asked me to send out a request for volunteers to mow the grass at the field this year. He would like to make a schedule. So please volunteer by sending me an email. Mail to: webmaseter@flyomac.org or you can use the email form on the website: http://www.flyomac.org/contact.html.
Field Make Ready:
Field Make Ready Day is planned for SATURDAY, May 9, at 9:00AM. Please come down to the field to lend a helping hand getting the filed ready for the season.
I would prefer to do it this weekend (sooner is better) but have been committed by my wife to man the sales counter at the Annual Academy Hill Neighborhood Garage Sale in Manlius (Held on Saturday, May 2, from 8AM to 3PM).. At this event I get a chance to get rid of lots of "useless stuff" my wife has accumulated.. I really need to be there during this event to make sure she doesn't sell any off my airplanes!!!! The one good thing is that I recover lots of space in my basement so I can buy and store more flying models.... If you are looking for something to do on Saturday stop by and buy some of her junk... We are on Westfield Drive just past the Make-a-Wish Foundation Hot Dog Stand and almost at the end of the street.
I guess that's all for now.. Short and sweet..
Hope to see all down at the field SATURDAY, MAY 9, at 9:00AM.. Cheers
Jay Staiger
